(Lessons of a Meek and Mighty God)

You who are Almighty,

You who can do everything,

why do You make Yourself nothing?

Why do You choose to be powerless?

From the beginning, You gave us everything.

Having given us all that we needed,

You also gave us freedom.

Why did you choose to give us freedom?

Why did you take the risk?

Giving us free will, You gave us power,

power to be all we can be.

But we misunderstood that power.

We wanted to be like You but…

in the wrong sense.

We wanted to decide for ourselves.

We wanted to chart our own destiny.

But in all this, we left You out,

and began to doubt Your love for us.

We thought we could be without You.

Living our lives away from You,

We thought we would be free.

But we ended up being slaves,

slaves of our selfishness.

But You did not regret giving us freedom.

You gave us this precious gift

because You wanted us to share in Your life,

to give us the great possibility to be like You.

But how can we really be like You?

You showed us Yourself

in the most unexpected way.

You came in our midst as a powerless child.

You gave your whole life

As a humble servant of all.

You were willing to lose everything,

even the comfort and security

of the Father’s love,

to teach us and make us experience

what it means to be free

and what it means to love… like You.
