With a historic vote, Virginia is preparing to abolish the death penalty and become the twenty-third state in the US, the first in the South, to make this decision. The first step was taken by the state Senate, with a democratic majority, which approved a law that puts an end to the death penalty. The last steps, to confirm this historic decision, will be the approval of the House and the signature by the Democratic Governor Ralph Northam, who has always been in favor of the abolition of the death penalty. There are currently 25 US states that still provide for this condemnation.
