From Djibouti to Senegal, a wall of trees is giving new job opportunities for people to bounce back in the post-COVID era. For almost ten years, in sub-Saharan Africa, there has been talk of a green future: the merit will go to the “Great Green Wall,” a $4-billion-a-year project that would allow trees to be planted from Djibouti to Sudan. All this is projected to be completed by 2030 to combat land impoverishment and desertification. COVID and the political disparities in the countries involved, however, have caused great slowdowns in its development. On January 11, 2021, during the One Planet Summit for Biodiversity, 14 billion dollars were promised to finish the work.
