Jesus of the Middle East

During Chiara Lubich’s visit to Fontem, Cameroon in 2000, she had a dialogue with the students of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College. This inspired the author to write the following poem.

Jesus, Son of God

God made man

Born in the Middle East

A region of paradox

of contradictions

of divisions

of war and peace

Middle East, symbol of the human heart

where the battle between

good and evil

joy and sorrow

life and death exists

Middle East, a place where the Messiah

chose to be born

chose to live

chose to die and rise

chose to start his Church

In order to show the world

that nothing is impossible

With love, just as He did

every sorrow

every wound of division

every desperation

can be surpassed

and healed.

This poem is part of his book “Reflections and Poems of An Exiled Heart.”
