Beyond Our Dreams

When we were engaged, we had so many dreams, but when our baby came, we felt completely at a loss… (S. and G.)

Generally, an engaged couple has many dreams, but with little concrete experience. Sometimes, we assume that we can handle whatever life throws at us, but when faced with reality, we can’t accept it. So, when we start life as a couple, we immediately become aware of our weaknesses. It is not easy to reconcile the differences between us, and those with in-laws; balancing work, friendships, and leisure time. The birth of our child, despite the joy it brings, makes the situation even more complicated. A sense of frustration may arise, pushing us to make the most of life in frenetic activism that wears us down, or using other people to realize ourselves.

The right thing to do is to try together to accept reality as it is, to find our own fulfillment here and now without false expectations, knowing how to enjoy the small, everyday joys of life. This inner peace will be the most lasting gift you can give to your child, and you can start dreaming “new dreams” again. Today’s dream, in fact, should be much better than yesterday’s.
