The Sun Sets…

by Margaret Karram

This evening, I admire

a sun that sets beyond

the city of Rome’s horizon.

The sky, not devoid of some clouds

allows itself to be inflamed

by the rays of the sun

and transforms into various colors:

from blue to red, to orange, to yellow

until everything then vanishes

and darkness enwraps the beautiful city.

Such is our life:

Light, fire, colors, gloom, darkness,

joy, courage, serenity!

Amazed is what I am

as this natural scene, I contemplate,

and as if drawn by a magnet,

I find myself immersed in my “sky”

where another Sun shapes me with His warmth

and invites me

to silence everything in me

to stop time

to bask, at least for a bit,

in His dazzling light!

It is beautiful to stay together,

together with the “SUN” alone

for a few moments, at least

after this tempest, so-called Coronavirus,

to make me realize once more

how much

my soul thirsts for the infinite,

desires for eternity!
