To the dearest participants of the First EoC Pan Asian Congress now gathered in Tagaytay in the Philippines and to those who are participating in the event via the worldwide link-up.
I’m leaving for Africa and before embarking on my journey I wish to unite myself spiritually to all of you, thanking God who has given us, through Chiara Lubich, a new vision for our Economy.
With the design of being “in communion,” he helped us understand immediately that this is an economy about relationships between people, based on mutual love, to heal inequalities that exist in our human community.
ln these twenty-five years many have chosen this way of life, moving from habits related to individualistic views or group interests, to a lifestyle of a “culture of giving”.
This dream of coming together to share the goods coming from both Providence and from the fruit of one’s labour, does not only relate to part of humanity, but would also be a source of great joy and a real experience of authentic universal brotherhood.
For this reason that, supported by the confidence and courage of Pope Francis, we need to experience anew the urgency that drove Chiara visiting Brazil in 1991 to launch an appeal for building together a society where people practise and share a communion of goods in freedom.
Today I believe that this is still the great novelty of the Economy of Communion’s prophetic vision.
I hope that the presence of Jesus in your midst may open new perspectives for all of you to contribute to the goal which the charism of unity proposes: a “united world.”
All the best for your work, everyone!
