Dearest Luke, what you are experiencing now as a teenager is very beautiful. Falling in love is one of man’s most extraordinary experiences ever since the world began. This is so beautiful not only because of the physical factor (a pounding heart) or a psychological one (as you experience unique sensations), but also above all, because of its spiritual dimension.
It is not by chance that God created us “man and woman” in His “image and likeness”. Since God is a relationship among three persons, His image could not but be a reflection of this relationship. Man is truly what he is and happy only if he is in this relationship of love. When human beings relate to each other, they live time and space together.
Falling in love makes time fly. It is as if you lived an eternity outside of time.
A whole day spent with the girl of your dreams seems to slip by as if it were but five minutes. Even if you are on the worst spot on the planet, that place becomes most beautiful when you are with her. Indeed, falling in love reflects something of heaven. It is other-worldly.
Falling in love can make us do things with more courage, unleashing our imagination and creativity. Being in love would seem to belong to a transcendent realm, to a loving fantasy that recalls beauty and infinite love, one which ultimately leads us to the source of love, or to God-Love Himself, our creator.
Dear Luke, do live this moment with all the joy that you can, knowing that the secret is to share it with your beloved and with others. In fact, the love you feel mirrors the infinite love of God for us.
Not surprisingly, some people believe that the Song of Songs is one of the most beautiful books of the Bible. Chiara Lubich wrote this about Paradise, where due to God’s love; “There the sun will always be at its zenith.” And is it not so when you are with her? That everything seems bright and eternal?
